Brevard NOW Virtual Meeting & Book Club
July 14, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
In light of all that is going on in this world we have decided to start a book club addressing our white supremacy.
The following book:
Me and My White Supremacy, by Layla Saad has been really impactful for some of us in addressing our unconscious bias.
Angela Schofield said “This book has literally changed my life.”
The book has an opportunity for us to become a better ancestor and that means that we have a new resource for white people willing to align what they profess to value (racial equality) with their actual practice (anti racist action). Let’s make the world a better place for our children and their children.
I hope you decide to join us as we embrace and commit to change.
You can either download the audio version of this book or order a hard copy (available 6/22). The book is a workbook requiring you to journal your honest (REALLY HONEST) thoughts about each chapter.
This book is a one-of-a-kind personal antiracism tool structured to help people with white privilege understand and take ownership of their participation in the oppressive system of white supremacy. No it doesn’t mean you are outright racist, and it doesn’t mean you are part of the KKK. But it does help you to understand your unconscious bias and face what it means to have white privilege, white fragility, tone policing, white silence, white feminism and many other things.
Please take this journey with us and really examine yourself.
SO WHAT EXACTLY SHOULD I DO:
Go to either Amazon or Barnes and Noble or Blackstone Bookstore and Cultural Center and buy the book. Read the introduction and day one of the workshop.
Join our zoom meeting on July 14th (email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to get the link)
Please also do the journaling exercise and let your truth be told.
