An article has come to our attention referencing events that occurred leading up to and during the 2017 National NOW elections. The article identified racism and transphobia within Brevard NOW and NOW as a whole.
After the referenced Brevard Now event, action was immediately taken within our organization addressing the highly offensive comments at the meeting. We truly regret that we did not take immediate further action and that we did not make a public statement condemning these actions, except at our next meeting.
We hope you can forgive us and accept our condemnation now. Let us unequivocally state that discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated in our organization. We hope to continue to earn your trust as we try to foster an inclusive culture within our organization, bringing equality and lifting up all women of color and LGBTQ+ in Brevard County and everywhere.
We realize we may fall short and are exploring ways to train all of our officers and board members to recognize and address racial and other biases.
